asked on

Very simply, I want to know which OU a user is in

I can find the user using the search function in AD, but it doesn't list the OU of the user!  How do I determine which OU a user is in?  Thanks.

Double-click the user and go to the Object tab.  This lists the canonical name which includes the OU.

Search for user in AD using search function.  Once you have found the user double click the user you want to know the OU of.  In the properties dialog that comes up select the Object tab.  The canonical name of object contains the entire structure of where that user lives.

Even easier - in search within AD user and computers, go to options choose columns and add the 'published at' column

but if you wish to see where they are when performing the search (and this applies for wildcard searches): the published at column gives you everything you need
