Remote Assistance via 2008 Terminal Server
We need to be able to respond to remote assistance requests via a Windows 2008 terminal server session.  However, the Remote Assistance application is not available on a 2008 Terminal Server and the msrcincident file type is also not recognized.  Our accounting support personnel work from a 2008 Terminal Server desktop and need to be able to respond to these requests to remotely take control of a person's PC.  Remote Desktop is not an option since the support session needs to be interactive.  We have tried loading UltraVnc on the Terminal Server - it works but is unbearably slow so not a viable option.  Any suggestions for a solution?

This is very easy. What you need to do is open Terminal Services Manager (Start > Administrative Tools > Terminal Services > Terminal Services Manager). From here right-click the user's session that you want to interact with and then click Remote Control. The user will then be asked (you can disable this under their profile in active directory) to accept the connecting and you both will share the desktop to work together.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.  I need to clarify that the end user that needs assistance does not have access to the 2008 Terminal Server. The support person needs to be able to remotely control the remote PC that the end user works on from the support person's Terminal Server session.  This is my dilemma.

To further clarify - our support personnel are located all over the country, mainly working from home.  They connect to our network via a VPN connection and then logon to the Terminal Server to access all of their needed applications and files.  Due to network architecture and security, the only way that a support person can access one of the remote PC's is from their own Terminal Server session.  They can launch Remote Desktop from their Terminal Server desktop and access one of the remote PC's, which they do now if they have to fix something non-interactively. However, at times, the remote user needs to be guided through a procedure on their own PC so the support person needs to have an interactive remote session with the user.

I guess we could use something like Webex, or maybe PC Anywhere would work better than UltraVNC.  Just hoping to find a "built-in" solution that does not require additional expense.

From my research, Remote Assistance (msra.exe) is available on 2008 Server.  It just seems that it gets removed when you make the server a Terminal Server

YES !!  I was able to find where to install it - it was in Server Manager in the Features section (I kept looking in the Roles section).  I have installed it on the TS and just tested it.  Works great.  THANKS for the help
