Deleted pictures on an SD card

I have accidently deleted pictures from my Pentax Optio with a 512MB SD card.  There have been more photos taken since the deleted files were done. I done so without being connected to a PC so cant retreive from there.  i have tried several recovery programs but no luck. I may have saved the photos to the cameras memory in the first instance but not sure

It started ok but recovered the files that were already visable on the card and recovered none of what I needed.

PhotoRescue, unlike the other utilities, searches the media for JPEG headers and will recover photos other programs can't since the search for the directory entries which have been overwritten: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

It was able to find 4 photos but none that was deleted from the actual camera and none that I wanted retreived. Looks like i have lost them for good. Any other suggestions I will try. Thanks
Jon,
I am unclear; you tried PhotoRescue?

Yes i tried Photo rescue and got 4 of the photos back however the were not the photos that i was looking for (there has never been any other memory cards used in this camera)
At the beginning of every JPEG is a header with data in a specified format which includes the camera, date taken, resolution, yada yada yada.  PhotoRescue searched the media for those and, since it didn't find them, what has happened is that you have written over the beginning of the JPEGs.  Unfortunately, they're gone.

I decided not to fuss on this even though we gave the effort and the right answer.  The moral of the story; though, is that taking a bunch of new pictures (or continuing to use the hard drive) does overwrite the accidentally erased items and can make them impossible to recover.
