IE7 ignoring compressed css and script data on my computer

I have a computer running Windows XP sp3 and IE7.   When trying to access a page that contains a gzip compressed css and script file (accessed via a <link> tag in the <head> section, the browser fails to either decompress or process the files.   This site works fine with IE7 on other computers (and it's a commercial site with a lot of users) but not on my computer.   The site also works fine with Firefox, Chrome and Opera.   I tried the IE8 beta but with no success.

I suspect that either the components that handle decompression are corrupted or there is some registry setting that prevents this from working.

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
