iPhone not syncing with Exchange 2003 SBS

My client had a blackjack phone that I set up to sync with his exchange server for email, calendar, and contacts.  It has been working perfect for the last 6 months, until he dropped it in the lake.  He purchased an iPhone, and wants this setup to sync.  It is version, 2.1.
I went through the setup on the phone to sync.  I get the following errors:
1.  Cannot get mail, the connection to the server failed, or
2.  it will go through and say it updated with the cuurent time and date, but nothing comes through on the iPhone.

I did email the certificate to the phone, using a yahoo account and installed it on the phone.

I used the iPhone configuratation utilility to install a profile on the iphone as well.

Also when I go through the setup on the phone, it states that it "verified exchange account"

I purchased an Iphone for myself to see if it would work with my exchange server, but I get the same errors.  So, this is two different exchange servers, and two different iphones.  I previously had a moto Q9 phone that synced flawlessly before the iphone.

my server is the only one on the network, 2003 SBS with SP2.
Thanks in advance

I upgraded my iPhone from 2.1 to 2.2, and that did not make any difference.
Can you use Safari on the phone to get to the OWA site itself?

FYI: I recommend against using Yahoo to forward attachments like certificates, it's WAY too open/plain text.

Not sure if Yahoo stripped some stuff off the certificate as well. You have to treat those with kid gloves.

Hi sdbrown1950,
I am able to access the OWA throught the safari on the iPhone.  I used the yahoo to send the cert and it appears to be good, got this idea from the apple site.
Do you have Forms based authentication enabled, or require ssl on your page?

Hi tntmax,
I tried the forms based authentication both ways, and currently it is disabled.  SSL is required.
Disable SSL requirement and FBA. Both of those break iPhone sync.

is this self-signed or a vendor SSL cert?

it is a self signed cert
Look over these two links:

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23567621/I-can't-get-the-IPhone-to-work-with-Exchange-and-ActiveSync.html - covers getting cert on phone

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23590687/ActiveSync-Issues-on-iPhone-with-Exchange-2003.html - do you have Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services installed correctly on your server?

Let me know what you find.

OK, I have done both of these with no luck.  I have the SBS2003 so I uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled for the operating system.  Is there a separate SP2 for exchange, because I did not see any thing come up ab out messaging and collaboration services.  Maybe this is for server with exchange added on?

I did use the configuration utility on my computer but see no way to add the cert to the profile, so I installed the configuration utility on the server and it just locks up when I start the program.  Any Ideas on this?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes!  after installing this SP2 for Exchange, and a restart on server, it synced great.
Note:  I have a self signed cert, did not install it on the iPhone, just setup exchange account on iPhone after the SP2 install and it started working perfectly.
Thanks,
Tom
