Lost remote connection to Exchange 2007 via owa and mobile devices

After a co-worker tried to install some microsoft share point windows components on our server we have lost all access to our exchange via owa from both the https connection and via our mobile devices. When I try to access our owa site via the https connection all I get is a web page that say " Service Unavailable" What do I need to do to resolve this?

My Coworker also stated that some popups did say something else was going to be added and something needed to be running in 32bit mode.... not sure if this helps...

Thanks
Scott

Update.... I can get to my website... I guess just not my default website. OWA seems to be the only thing not working now.

You mean, you have installed SharePoint on a site, where Exchange is installed?
You have to exclude the Exchange folders from sharepoint (administration page of your sharepoint virtual server). Otherwise the request is redirected to sharepoint instead of exchange.

Hosting exchange and sharepoint on the same virtual web server, is not the best idea.

He did say something about it changing to 32bit mode. He removed the share point component before calling me so I am not sure what needs to be done to get this back to normal.
Exchange 2007 is not compatible with 32 bit mode. The KB article I have linked to above will allow to change it back.

I made the changes but I think he may have done something to the owa site.  I am still getting service unavailable but it does not look different than before. What is the best way to remove and rebuild this?
I can not get even to the owa site from the server using the internal address
Here you find the way to recreate the virtual directories
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201/en-us
I just went through the same problem this weekend on SBS2008 after trying to install CRM4 (& SQL & Rollups)  The OWA references in AD were corrupted and also the 32 bit mode and the binding to SSL for IIS was lost.  On SBS they were moved from the SBS Web Application site to the default website.   You have to use the exchange management shell to remove & recreate OWA.

First I removed the OWA using the commands from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998237.aspx
Then added back as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123752.aspx

I had to do this with OWA and Active synch (commands are in same area) and also ensured that the correct ssl certificate was selected.
My event log is full of the following errors...

aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is 80004005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation directory allow access to the configured account.

Could this be part of the problem?
Check the application pool, OWA has it's own.  The commands I mentioned will reset that.
GerardChiasson: - are your steps the same as the ones found here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201/en-us

I am having trouble following th ones you have sent.
also I have noticed that under my IIS manager I no longer see an application pool.
What do I need to get this pool back?
If the app pool has gone, that is quite serious damage to the server.
You might get away with removing the CAS role and then reinstalling it. That may well put things back.

-M
you are saying to reinstall the CAS.. that would be the exchange portion correct?
and would that also fix the problem I am having with the following error???

aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is 80004005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation directory allow access to the configured account.

Thanks in advance for your help... I am really in need of getting this fixed and I am not sure what I need to do
I am trying to reinstall the CAS role from my Exchange cd but it will only let me add new roles
That is a mess you have there.

The first thing I would do is check if asp.net 1.1 is installed. This should be in add/remove programs. You can also look in IIS manager and see if it is an option. If it is, then remove it.
Next, ensure that IIS is in 64 bit mode as already stated.
Then reinstall asp.net 2.0
To do that you run the following command:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe" -i

Watch the version number - that is lifted from my own system and yours might be slightly different.
Then remove and reinstall the Exchange 2007 Client Access Server role.

I can't say that will work, but it is what you can try for now.
If that doesn't work then it is a reinstall of IIS, and that isn't pretty at all.

-M
great.. well not really but it is a good place to start. is this apnet 1.1 the same as the framework 1.1? and where can I find my version number for my asp.net 2.0?
asp.net is the same as .net framework 1.1 - it is various naming conventions.
If you look in the path that I have outlined, see what the version number is.

my night is going to hell now... I have removed the CAS portion of exchange but I can not add it from my cd because it is telling my the product on my machine is newer?????
You are using RTM CD and have SP1 most likely.
Or you have SP1 and don't have the rollups.

If you have SP1 somewhere, put it on the machine on the hard disk.
Then extract the last rollup that you installed in to the Updates directory which is a sub directory of the extracted SP1 setup.

-M
If your rollup file is an MSP then it be copied completely in to the Updates folder. You don't have to do anything else with it.

-M
I am running SP1 but my CD is Standard 2007.
it is having me look for a valid .msi file
Thats fine.
The SP1 download is the complete product. If you are using SP1 then you must have it somewhere. If you don't then download it fresh from Microsoft.
The RTM CD you have is now useless to you - if you were to install it fresh I would advise to use the SP1 download.

-M
how can I find the sp1 download?
ok I found the sp1 download file.. and have extracted it in to a folder
I got the CAS reinstalled but still nothing... when I go to the https address I am getting service unavailable????
is there anyway someone can remote in and take a look. I think it would be a lot faster than what I can do. If anyone is willing that would be great.
ok.. I guess I will try to do a restore from a backup I made last month. Hopefully this will work
if CAS is missing you can add it by running Exchange setup from your installation CD (or SP1 as mentioned by others)

All that I did to fix the problem was Step 1 from the kb your referenced (although I wish I had found that!)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941201/en-us

If you are willing to do a restore anyway then I suggest you try the the remove and new from that kb and see what happens.

I got sp1 re added but still have the same problems.  I am going to try to do a resotre from my backup and see what I get. The only think on this server that I do not want to lose is the users mail boxes but they are on a different drive than the one I am going to restore. Hopefully they will remain safe.
I did a system state restore and everything is back to normal and working now. Thank you for all your help. It seems the problem that caused all this was IIS being switched to 32bit mode and  then my coworker messing things up from there.
