Remote Desktop to Office Domain

I am trying to remote desktop to an NAT domain from home. For security reasons I have changed the port # for the remote computer to listen on a different port and configured forwarding on the router accordingly. I can get to the authentication dialog but after I enter username/password I get no error but I do not get in. I understand the username should be mydomain\user? I have no problem RDing from my office LAN to home (no domain). Any ideas?

Can you telnet to the port successfully?

telnet ipaddress portnumber

Have you tried connecting to the server from another computer on the same LAN? This will tell us if it is a server issue or a internet/firewall issue.

Andrew, I tried to connect to this computer on the local LAN and it failed doing the same thing. From the computer I was using to connect, it could connect to other machines.

On the computer I'm trying to connect to I am seeing an EVENT ID: 10009 "DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer #### using any of the configured protocols."
That is probably addressed here:
How to configure Windows Firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 to allow remote administration tools that use WMI, RPC, or DCOM

I am testing with a laptop logged in to the domain. I turned off Windows Firewall on both with the same result. I am able to RD from this machine to the laptop  but not from the laptop to this machine ???
You should check to see if the listening port on the server has been changed. The following guide should help you determine this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306759
The default is 3389.
Good luck.
I first did change the port as a security measure, but while not being able to connect I changed it back with no success.
I am not sure, but you may have to restart for the change to fully take affect.
