Remote Desktop Connection unable to connects to remote computer from a computer running Vista Business

I've been trying to connect to the remote computer visa VPN using Remote Desktop Connection. I've no problem connecting to remote computer from computer running WinXP or Windows Vista Ultimate but not from any computer running Vista Business.

Not sure why but is it possible that this a specific limitation of the Windows Vista Editions?

I'd say that's out of the question - Remote Desktop works well from almost any platform, including Linux.

The likelier version is that there's maybe some misconfiguration on the VPN? Can you ping through the tunnel ?
Is your terminal services server a Windows 2008 machine that maybe has NAC on ?
Is the TS a 2008 machine behind a firewall and allowing only TS proxy connections? Is your proxy set-up?

What exactly do you mean by unable to connect? Have you tried using the IP of the server directly?

VPN configuration is properly configured, there is no problem with the same setting for other computers. What happened with this particular system is, I have a Windows Vista Business at home. I connect to the VPN using the Check Point software. If I use RDC after the VPN is connected, I'll get the error message said RDC cannot connect to the remote computer. However if I run WinXp on Virtual PC and use RDC from VirtualPC machine, I can connect to the remote desktop with no problem.

I tried to use the other computers running Vista Ultimate and Win XP, RDC

Remote desktop use Windows 2000 and Novell software. I cannot ping to this computer but I guess it's been blocked by the firewall.

Is the Vista Business machine that doesn't work using the same DNS server as the other ones ? Perhaps it' set to static and not taking the correct one from DHCP but instead using an external server and thus connecting to the wrong server.

Hello frigens,

Just a thought  - on the machine you are connecting FROM and TO Try doing the following

1. Start > Run > Regedit {enter}
2. Navigate to HKLM \ System \ Current Control Set \ Services \ TCPIP\ Parameters
3. In the right hand pane, Right Click > New > DWORD
4. Call it EnablePMTUBHDetect set its hex value to 1
5. Reboot the machine

Windows Vista
Windows Vista

Windows Vista is an operating system created by Microsoft as the successor to Windows XP. It was intended for PCs, workstations and laptops, and shares the same code base as its successor, Windows 7. New features included an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display subsystems, and new multimedia tools. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer-to-peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices. Windows Vista included version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs.
