I have a new key board but gant get rid of the old PS2 port one as each time i reboot without it i get the 304 keyboard or system error and my compaq 510 cmt will not start up. I have not been able to enter into the bios to be able to turn off the error messages as the bios menu i get to does not have this option. Can anyone help.

can you get in the bios? try a ps/2 keyboard, or an usb one; then check what is enabled, or disabled : usb, ps/2 errors..
"USB legacy mode" (or something like that, I'm not sure how Compaq calls it), should be on. It means that the BIOS itself should check what USB devices are there, and provide support for them.

I get to the bios screen (i think) by pressing F10 and that is the system set up screen. In there there is no mention of any turn off error messages or enable disable ps2 key board
you can try removing the bios battery for a bios reset

Seems to be that I have to run the thing with a keyboard dangling out the back. Compaq themselves have no solution.
