I use a dell Poweredge 2850 server as a backup server. I use Symantec 12 and use CPS backups. Not all of my servers use cps, only the ones that reside outside my office. Recently, the IT staff has decided to purchase a new backup server as we are approaching our disk capacity (1.3 TB). The one item that needs to be finalized is which raid level we will take advantage of 5 or 10. We are looking at a poweredge 2950 that can hold 6 3.5 inch drives with a max 1 TB per drive. With raid 5 we can have % TB whereas with raid 10 we would only get 3 TB. Symantec states that raid 1will perform significantly better than raid 5 for its uses which is expected but just how much?
