Outlook Express message - "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages" but not using OE but Outlook 2007
Each time this user logs in to their machine, this message from OE pops up but they aren't using OE and isn't even configured. They are using Outlook 2007. Any way to turn this off?
Hello vianceadmin,
Outlook Express will prompt you to compact your folders every 100 opening. The above registry edit will reset the tracking to 0. But that is good only until the number reaches 100 again.
Uninstall Outlook Express by going to Add/Remove Programs > Components. Uncheck Outlook Express.
Hope this helps!

The only issue is that we're not using Outlook Express and therefore not opening it so I don't know why he's getting the message in the first place.

OK, will do. Just strange that this is the first time I've ever seen this for one of our users and we're not even using OE.
Hello.
I think what VianceAdmin was concerned about is what is totally being ignored. If the users aren't using OE, why is the count incrementing? The obvious concern for an admin is that if a user isn't using OE, then is an underlying virus using it? There are ways to find out, but wouldn't be helpful to know why this occuring?
Thanks!

VianceAdmin, here is perhaps someone that gave a more complete answer to your issue:

My Outlook Express was already unchecked in "Remove System Components" So I , too am wondering why this error message has just recently started appearing...I wish MS would stop putting OExpress in the system...

Double click the Compact Check Count
Select the Base option for Decimal and change the value to 0
