Outlook pdf attachment will not open?

I installed adobe reader on a users XP workstation with MSOffice 2003. I can open the PDF documents as a file in a directory but can't double click the pdf atttachment in an email message without it trying to open it with Word instead of Adobe. How can I fix this.

Right click on the file and go to properties.  Change the file association from word to adobe.

right.  ya gotta save the file first my man.  hehehe  sorry.
Hello cap7,

Save the PDF attachment as a file, or use an existing PDF file. Right click on the file, not the attachment.  Select Open With.  Scroll down and select Adobe Acrobat Reader or Standard or Pro.  Check Always use this program to open this type of file.  Click OK.

If you can open PDF file from file but  not from attachment, the problem is likely Outlook or MS Office.

1 Repair Outlook. With Outlook open, go to Help > Detect and Repair.

2 If no joy, repair Outlook with this free utility -  OLfix
http://www.olfolders.de/Lang/English/OLfix/index.htm

3 If no joy, create a new Outlook profile.
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/profile.htm

4 If no joy, reinstall Office to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

Hope this helps!

So, in summary, save the attachment, right click on it and go to properties, then select Adobe for the file to associate it with.  jeez.
war1, fyi, the file was opening from attachment to word.  So, i'm pretty sure it's not a corrupt install of outlook.  This is an association issue.  Consider the horse kicked to death.  ha
If the association is correct everywhere except Outlook, the only we we've been able to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader.

Same goes in this thread as well :)

Good Luck!
Cool.  You posted a link to the same thread that we are currently in.  hahaha
Cap7, please make it stop.  lol jk
lol np
good call takendown.  If the file does not open properly once you have it associated, you should definitely follow the link and procedures Cap7.
OMG.  Seriously?  You could have at least given me an assist.
@cap7,

Thank you for the points, but I think other people also deserve some of them. In particular, I would suggest a split between dandmantra and I. You can use the Request Attention feature to bring this to attention.

Thanks again.
thx z
Guess the author didn't feel like I helped out.
Sorry about that :-( Maybe there's something you can do yourself, I'm not sure.
