How to monitor a Port of a Cisco 3750 layer 3 Switch
I have a server patched into our layer 3 Cisco 3750 core switch. I want to capture IP traffic the server is sending.

These are the basic steps have taken

core switch#configure terminal
core switch(config)#monitor session 1 source interface fastethernet 0/2 (server port)
core switch(config)#monitor session 1 destination interface fastethernet 0/3 (port connected to my laptop)

I have installed and downloaded wireshark to my laptop

At the moment I cannot see any traffic from the server's Ip address in the traffic capture displayed by wireshark so I assume I have not configured this correctly

Any help would be appreciated

ASKER

thanks from_exp

Idiotically before monitoring the core switchports I set up a capture on one os our access switches as a test.

All appears to be working - it's just a case of filtering the data, BTW what is promissious mode in Wireshark?

Networking hardware includes the physical devices facilitating the use of a computer network. Typically, networking hardware includes gateways, routers, network bridges, modems, wireless access points, networking cables, line drivers, switches, hubs, and repeaters. But it also includes hybrid network devices such as multilayer switches, protocol converters, bridge routers, proxy servers, firewalls, network address translators, multiplexers, network interface controllers, wireless network interface controllers, ISDN terminal adapters and other related hardware.
