We recently upgraded from Backup Exec 12 to Backup Exec 12.5.  Before the upgrade we were having very few failures and ever since we upgraded I am getting a lot of failed backups.  I have tried cleaning the drive, installing the hotfix/drivers that Symantec has on their site and I have tried new media and new cleaning media.  I will get 1 or 2 successful backups but then I will get a streak of failures.  Here are some of the messages I am receiving:

"0xe00084c7 - A tape read/write error has occurred.  This is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors"

" 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors"

and seems to always be at these directories:

Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group
Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes

Those are the most common that I receive anyway.  We do daily backups so we have a tape for each day so a Monday day tape could be successful one week and fail with one of the above messages the next and then be successful again the next.

Now during the time span we also upgraded to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7 and Group Shield 7.0.  I checked the logs and don't see it blocking any thing but could those be causing a problem?

Could this be some setting I need to adjust in Backup Exec?  Could this be a driver problem?
