asked on

Linksys wireless router connected to a Sonicwall TZ180.

I would like to connect the linksys wireless router to the OPT port on the sonicwall TZ180 and create a different subnet for the wireless router.  This is for a small bed and breakfast and I do not want the wireless customers on the same subnet as the employees.  Any way to do that at all or some other way to seperate the subnets??

Do I just add the wireless device to the back of one of the regular ports on the TZ180??  Also, will the Linksys wireless device run DHCP, along with the TZ180 running DHCP?

As they are serving seperate subnets, yes, DHCP on both will work fine.....

If you put the linksys to a LAN port on the SW, than someone behind the Linksys can be crafty and add a custom route to get to the 192.168.1.x subnet, if they discover what the scope is.

Unfortunately I havent worked with that many SW devices, but you should be able to assign the OPT zone a public address (assuming you have a secondary IP), and plug the Linksys in with it's WAN port being set to DHCP.
Of course, you would need to set the DHCP scope on the opt zone as well, for the secondary subnet.

I would wait to see if any others stop in to add real experience in having accomplished this before....

Okay, I will wait to see if anyone else has any ideas on this subject.   The main thing is making sure that they are on a different subnet and that the IP address assigned to the wireless is assigned by the wireless and the IP address assigned to the employees (Wired) to the Sonic Wall, is assigned  by the Sonic wall.  Again,  I will wait to see if there are any more advice on this matter.

NP. Feel free to hook it up as a test, and then try and ping both ways.....
