Resize a Datastore on Dell MD3000i

Hi, I try to write a intern procedure for expend size of datastore for future use. I make some test in our test environment without full success.

It is possible to expand size without the need of backing up all the Datastore content?
On windows 2003 with iSCSI initiator I can expand the LUN and then with program like partition magic expand the partition, that work great. But I can't found a way to do this with VMFS.
For now I try:
1- Shutdown the VM that use the disk
2- Remove the disk from the VM
3- Go to the Dell MD3000i Manager and create a new LUN with a new size
4- Use the copy Disk function to create a image of the source disk on the new sized target
5- Delete the source disk
6- In ESX-Configuration-Storage adapters do a rescan of my iSCSI
7- The new LUN appear correctly
8- In ESX-Configuration-Storage, the old datastore de not appears, I click on Add storage
9- In the Add Storage wizard I only have the choice: use all storage (lost all file aleready in this datastore) or Use free space (that create another empty datastore)

I am on ESX 3.5.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

You could extend a vmfs datastore, do not know if it is wise to do that but is it possible. Otherwise a procedure how you describe (create new lun, add, format, possible migrate virtual to new lun) should do the trick.
