non-MS apps show files in date order rather than alphabetically

I had a crash in XP Pro SP3, afterwards when opening or saving files in non-Microsoft apps, the dialogue box show files in date order rather than alphabetically.  I assume is a registry issue, any advice?

Click the fourth icon over from the "Look in" box, which is the View button. Select Details. Then click teh column at the veryy top of the white box, that says "Name".

That will organize them alphabetically. You should be able to go back and change the view from there on and still be organized....

Thanks johnb6767.  I perhaps failed to supply enough info.  By default (in my experience) Windows apps display in alphabetical order in dialogue boxes.  However my machine stopped doing this after a crash.  I understand I can change the view manually, but I don't want to do this every time I have to save or open something.

Thanks
You shouldnbt have to keep changing it..... MS Office apps use thier own Common dialogs, whereas Adobe wo0uld use a similar control. Thats why certain apps might display differently. I would try resetting it once, and then even go into your Folder Options>second tab, name eludes me now, and click "Apply to all folders". That should even reset your common dialogue view, once you have properly alphabetized them in an Explorer window.....
They are all good suggestions Johnb6767, and none of them work.  You nail the problem in your first sentence, I shouldn't have to keep changing it, but I do!  That's my issue.  This all started after an XP crash.  In Outlook, Notepad, Paint etc the files display the normal way, but in non-MS apps the files display in date modified order.
I just double checked some of my frequently used apps:  Word, Excel, IE, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro display the right order, but Photopaint, CorelDraw, Firefox, Audacity, InDesign do not.
