questions about a folder on my desktop - named WDM

I have had a sound problem form weeks, several solutions tried and failed. I was able to restore sound using my Intel Driver disc that came with my computer. As far as I know it installed only the Intel Audio Studio drivers.

However, on my desktop is a folder called WDM.
In this folder are many files.
Under help it shows this info:
Windows XP professional
version: 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236 : service pack 3)
2007

I've done nothing, knowlingly, to put this on my desktop.
1. Why is it there?
2. Where should it be?
I see SP3 in my add/remove program list. I do not see service pack 2.

extracted from where?

the installation of my Intel Driver disc put it on my desktop?
Yes.  Most likely you ran the Intel Driver disc from your desktop location and it extracted the WMB folder from an install archive on the CD.  Then, it used the files inside the WMD folder to install your updated drivers.
