Cisco Aironet 1130AG wireless interfaces won't enable
I got an Aironet 1130AG from a college auction, so i don't have any service agreement support.

I upgraded my aironet to the 12.4 firmware and things went haywire, but only concerning the wireless interface settings seemed to be effected. after some poking around the telnet CLI I was able to configure the radios to be up. After I did that I was able to turn them off and on through the web interface, as well as set different settings.

I then tried setting up an SSID, but there is no <NEW> line or a preset entry like tsunami, and it wouldn't save the settings when I clicked apply. so I went back to the CLI and did the following:
AP# configure terminal

AP(config)# dot11 ssid batman

AP(config-ssid)# exit

AP(config)# interface dot11radio 0

AP(config-if)# ssid batman

AP(config-if)# end

AP#copy running-config startup-config
when I do
AP# show running-config ssid batman
it shows that radio0 is assigned batman, but if i refresh the ssid page, there still isn't a batman SSID set and scanning surrounding ssids dosen't show batman.
The curious thing is that a lot of the settings that I couldn't set like the host name and radio settings worked as soon as I defined them in the CLI. I'm guessing that that means that 12.4 is nerfed.

any help would be appreciated.

here are some error lines from the serial out after a restore to defaults

When I try to enable radio0: NO_SSID_OR_NO_VLAN: No SSID configured. Dot11Radio1 not started.

Hey ACiDGRiM,
give this a try and let me knwo if you still need any more help.  Please remember to remove my little notes before copying everything to the AP.  Also, in case you were aware, you can actually copy and paste the entire config unto your AP.  Simply copy your current running config, add the necessary command lines and put 'no' in front of any lines that are no longer required.  You then login to the AP and go into privilege exec mode. write click and 'paste to host'.

Thanks, but I got a hold of 12.3 so I could downgrade. Would you know if 12.4 is known to be problematic? it's strange that I only have the problem using the 12.4 firmwares I was linked to (from a reputable user on FedoraForum). Even using reset to defaults, and holding the mode button didn't fix anything. but the moment I go back to 12.3 BAM everything worked again (and the 12.3 I went to was newer than the 12.3 I bought it with).

I personally haven't heard of any issues with 12.4.  I'm actually running 12.4 with quite a few units for my clients right now, and I have yet to have any issues.

I'm going to get the latest few firmwares from the NetAdmin at my college and try them today. I'll post back with the results and award points.

I've gone up to 12.4(10b)JDA and I backed up my config.txt to restore. I can connect to the AP using benap (the SSID I had set in 12.3) and everything works the same as before as far as connecting goes. But the web interface is STILL nerfed. the whole table that says the up/down state of the interfaces in the front page is completely missing, and the problem of there being no <NEW> or even listing benap is still there. is there something I'm missing?

Here is my current config.txt

Hey ACiDGRiM,
I'm not really sure what going on there.  Here are a few steps I would suggest to troubleshoot.

1. Download the newest IOS from the Cisco http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/PlatformList.x?sftType=IOS+Software&mdfid=279537722&treeName=Wireless&mdfLevel=Model&url=null&modelName=Cisco+Aironet+1130+AG+Access+Point&isPlatform=N&treeMdfId=278875243&modifmdfid=null&imname=&hybrid=Y&imst=N
2. Flash the AP with the newest IOS and reset the unit by holding the reset button while plugging the power in.
3. If you're copying and pasting the config unto the AP, remove the 'Version 12.3' entry at the top.
4. I noticed that you're attempting to configure both WEP and WPA simultaneously.  I would suggest attempting one type of authentication first (I prefer WPA since it's so much cleaner).
5. You seem to be having issues with the defualt http site; Try using the secure site and see if makes a difference.  Just enable (ip http secure-server).

For your convenience, I've included a test config below, using just WPA.  Give it a whirl and let me know how it goes.  Please remember to go through the code and remove any comments I've put in.

Thank you for your time! Problem isnt really fixed yet, but i'm going to award points, if you have time to keep helping me that's great, other wise i'm just going to just stay with 12.3

Hey ACiDGRiM,
Thank you for the points.  Sorry I wasn't able to solve your problem for you.  Were you able to get it running at all with the steps I gave you above?  Please let me know the results I will try to test it out for you in a few days, as I do not currently have an AP to test it on.

I've gone from 12.3 to 12.4 numous times and the result it the same, UI is nerfed, can't add SSIDs and reset to defaults shuts off radios (they can't be enabled). Since I don't have an SLA I don't have access to the latest firmwares, namely 12.4.10b-JA3(ED), but the other 12.4 have all given the same result, namely 12.4.10b-JDA(ED).

If you're having that much trouble with 12.4.10b-JDA(ED, then I highly doubt that 12.4.10b-JA3(ED) would really make any difference for you.  The (ED) suggests that this firmware is an "Early Development" version.

Ok, that must be why i'm having so much trouble. I'm taking the Cisco cert next semester so hopefully that class will help me understand more. The only reason i was trying 12.4 was because my linux computer would loose connection every 20 minutes. maybe you'd beable to point me in the right direction with the error log:

I had the same problem.  I was using Firefox to access the Web Server Admin interface.  Try using IE.  Internet explorer allowed me to add new SSID's via the Web Console when Firefox would not.

Hi,

I have a cisco wireless router RV220W and an Cisco aironet 1041 AP.
I configure the AP as repeater. The distance between the AP and Router is 20 Mtr. The problem is that the repeater don't extend the radio signal.
Below you can find my config file.
Can somebody help me with this issue??

Hi Rbijl,
From the looks on the config above, it doesn't seem as if you have any encryption or authentication configured.  For the network to be extended, you need to make sure that your configured encryption and authentication on the AP, directly matches the settings on your RV220W.  If you can post the config from the RV220W, maybe I can help you get this up and running.

Thanks!

Hi ACiDGRiM.

I had the same problem as you. I was able to resolve it, using Internet Explorer (with mozilla didn´t appear the word NEW in SSID).

Bye.

Wireless networking is a method by which homes, telecommunications networks and enterprise (business) installations avoid the costly process of introducing cables into a building, or as a connection between various equipment locations. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented and administered using radio communication. This implementation takes place at the physical level (layer) of the OSI model network structure. The key hardware components of a wireless computer network include adapters, routers and access points, antennas and repeaters.
