Blue Screen
I'm regularly getting "Blue Screen Error" since last couple of days, with no specific task in progress; it happens anytime so am unable to determine what's causing it
All i can notice is a dump is being created, before the system reboots

You need to post the dumps here for us for analysis. It should be at least 2 dumps, to compare.
It might also be helpful if you could tell what STOP error appears on your blue screen. To turn off the auto-restart after a serious error, so that you can read off details of the error from the screen: right click My Computer, select Properties from the context menu, click on the Advanced tab, then click Settings under Startup and Recovery, and remove the check mark next to Automatic Restart.

there is only one .dmp file -
c:\Windows\Memory.dmp

Typically it will be in c:\users\Appdata\Local\Tem p\***.DMP.
ASKER
no .dmp file found in that location
Maybe you can find out yourself then. Try to find STOP in the dmp file, on that line there should be some info about the cause (some numbers, and the causing driver or program). If you could cut some 100 lines before and after, that might be enough to post here.
ASKER
how do i open the .dmp file; i tried opening it with notepad but didn't succeed; i get a busy cursor for a very long time then Notepad (Not Responding) message comes up
ASKER
phew! it just opened in notepad after an hour or so
will locate what you asked for & post it here
will locate what you asked for & post it here
Yes, Notepad is not very efficient with big files ... I don't know whether wordpad is better.

Hmm, very bad, the data is not filled out. Looks like memory corruption or buffer overruns. You don't have a line with STOP: 0x0 ?

Did you try my advice of turning off the automatic restart on error, so you can read the blue screen STOP error before it flashes past too fast to see? Once you find the STOP error, you can then go to Event Viewer, search out the error and see what information is available in the event log. Type EVENTVWR.MSC in the Search dialog box off the Start Menu, hit Ctrl-Shift-Enter to run it as Administrator.

Well, then, first see if you can find more details with this tool:

But did you click on the link in the left pane for View Problem History, and then at least find an entry for the latest time your blue screen occurred?
ASKER
yes i did & the only entry there is for a problem 6 months old, nothing related to the current problem
I guess you have memory problems. I would start with that, e.g. with the memory tester startet from boot menu, or with MemTest86+ (www.memtest.org).

Vista has a memory tester built into the operating system.

Hi amit,
I would suggest you to check your cable connecting your modem to your PC. Faulty wires causes blue screens. I had this problem with my new Dell PC couple of months back. After changing the cable my problem got solved. I never got the bluescreen since then.

Have you run the Vista memory diagnostic tool? This web page gives a little description of the BAD_POOL_CALLER STOP code:
http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm
quote:
0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)
A kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this.
0x000000C2 {KB 265879} Win 2000, Win XP
0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER {KB 310527} Win XP (upgrading Compaq Professional Workstation AP550 from Win 2000 to XP)
Computer with ATI RAGE FURY MAXX Video Adapter Stops Responding After Upgrade to Win XP {KB 307151} Win XP
Go to the actual page to be able to click on the embedded links to Microsoft articles. You might consider disabling devices to see if the error goes away, in case it's a bad driver. And you can use the Microsoft Configuration Tool to debug other startup programs. In Windows 98/ME/XP/Vista, you can choose which programs are run at startup by using the Microsoft Configuration utility: click on the Start button, choose Run, type in MSCONFIG (doesn't need to be all capitals), click OK. Choose the Startup tab, deselect programs to run at startup by removing the check mark. In Windows 9x/ME, you may need to disable just about everything except Explorer, ScanRegistry and SysTray. In Windows XP/Vista, just click on the button for Disable All. Reboot and see if the problem goes away. If it does then re-enable the startup programs one (or a few) at a time, reboot, and when the problem occurs again, there is your culprit. If you have a great number of apps to narrow down on in trying to track down the culprit, do it instead by dividing up the loading programs into successively smaller halves: disable half of them; if the problem doesn't go away, then the offending app is within the other half, so divide that group into half; or if the problem does go away, then the disabled group contains the offender, so again narrow down by dividing in half.
In Windows XP/Vista: If the problem continues to come up with all startup programs disabled, then it is probably a driver or service. You can click on the Services tab in MSCONFIG, click on the button for Hide All Microsoft Services, leaving only third-party services displayed, then try turning them off in the same way you did for startup programs. Finally, if third-party services are eliminated from being the cause of the problem, you could try narrowing down on Microsoft services in the same way.
Here is a Microsoft article about troubleshooting STOP 0x0C2 messages; it's for Win2000, but it is relevant for XP and Vista, too, I imagine:

Un-neccesary to running windows that is, it will determin if one of them is a problem.
on the last you offered
DMP Printer< unnecessary
InkJet< unnecessary
Laser< unnecessary. but what's this one?
3 USB HDD<<definately look into that, that's very interesting, could be one of these causing the BSOD,
External Sound Card, that's interesting too. Have you disabled the onboard sound card if you have one?
interesting you have an External Sound Card
have you looked in the device manager to see any problem devices with USB?
You maybe over loading your system's power supply unit

indeed I would be suspect about those 3 USB drives
if you look at your log the one I pulled out
* A driver is mapping physical memory %p->%p
* that it does not own. This can cause internal CPU corruption.
* A checked build will stop in the kernel debugger
* so this problem can be fully debugged.
Look at the amount of devices you have running that are USB
