What Driver(s) Do I Need To Enable AHCI?
I am new and confused on exactly how to do this. I have a Abit IP35 Pro motherboard, with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, with a Seagate Serial ATA Hard Drive. I have been to Abit's and Intel's website and found a couple of drivers to enable AHCI but I don't understand on how to do it or which driver(s) I need to download to enable AHCI. As of now I am in IDE Mode. Would someone please explain to me step-by-step exactly which driver(s) I need to download and how to embed the downloaded driver(s) onto my Windows XP CD so I don't have to press F6 if I need to reinstall Windows XP again?

Since XP is already installed, you cannot just simply install drivers and enable in BIOS. I've used the method described here successfully:

Ok, I downloaded the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.7.0.1007 1/9/2009. Once I downloaded the file I got a .exe file, when I double click on the file I get a error saying this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software setup will exit. I went back again to see if I was missing something then I missed the part about Run the installer with the -a switch to extract the files. Well my question is how do I run the installer with the -a switch to extract the files? What do they mean by -a switch?

Use the run command and type in the following:

iata86enu.exe -a

Assumes you are using Intel provided file and not an auto install from a driver CD. Here's alink to Matrix Storage Manager from Intel:

Ok, I went to the link you provided and downloaded both .exe files. I tried iata86enu.exe -a in the command box, also I tried iata87enu.exe, and I even tried the iata86cd in the command box and I get the following error in the command box, is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I have tried c:\iata_cd.exe -a, c:\iata86enu.exe -a, and c:\iata87enu.exe -a. I know that I'm doing something wrong I just can't figure out what.

Doesn't work for me either. Let's try a different approach. iastor.sys is on the F6 floppy, so download the file below and unzip the files. You'll see a copy of iastor.sys.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/17269/eng/f6flpy3287.zip&DwnldId=17269&ProductID=2842&lang=eng

I got it to work, my computer is now in AHCI mode. I have two other questions for you, my first question is how can I put the floppy driver(s) the iastor.sys, the ahci.reg that I had to create with notepad and the iata87enu.exe and embed them onto my Windows XP cd so I don't have to push F6 or need a floppy if or when I need to reinstall Windows again, just a regular install with AHCI built in. Also, now that I'm AHCI mode now, if I restart my computer with a bootable cd in the drive would my bootable cd boot in AHCI mode or is suppose to work in only IDE mode?

Why did you assign a B grade? Did I leave something out?

That's my fault, I meant to give you an A grade, I asked for it to be switched to an A grade.

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
