Microsoft Office Error 25090 - Want to uninstall and reinstall - cannot kill process

I have a message appearing on a vista business laptop.
"Error 25090, Office Setup encountred a problem with the office sourec engine, system error -2147024893. Please open C:\Program Files\Microsoft office\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM and look for "Office Source Engine" for information on how to resolve this problem.
I open the file - tried to start the service and it said "path not found" - assumed deleted - tried 2nd option to repair/install BUT I cannot uninstall - always get a message saying another process running.
When I try and kill the install process / message above, it disappears from Task Manager for a few seconds then just starts again.
How do I get around this?

thanks - that's more like it - will take a look.
I have tried this, but I get the same issue above - I am told that another process is running and that I need to wait for it to complete. the process is the install program. how can I stop the current message and install program running?
Open task manager, and have a look on the process tab. Click the Image Name column to sort them alphabetically.

I can't off-hand remember the name of the installer (msi.exe??) but it'll be quite obvious what it is (might even be using some CPU time).

If you've found what you THINK it is, google the process name just to make sure.
Once you're certain, select it, and click End Process. Ignore the warning.

That should have killed any running installers/uninstallers, allowing you to continue.
Hi - I have tried to kill it but without luck - just keeps restarting again - ugh!
Ok, see if you can locate a service that might be running the installer, and try stopping that.

Start > Right click My Computer > Manage> Services and applications > Services
Look for anything that resembles an office installer (sorry i can't be more specific) and stop the service. (Right click, Stop)

Failing that, i'm afraid i can't help any further. Sorry :(
just brute install office over the top worked in the end - thanks
Advice Great - thanks - at least you were heliping and deserve the credits! Cheers
No problem, sorry I couldn't help as much, but thanks for the points :)
