How to bypass the login for XP Professional

I have a Dell laptop that I inherited from a company that is no longer in business. I have been logging into it  daily but I am not atached to the network or going through a VPN service. I just use it as a home computer and connect to the internet through my wireless router and a cable modem.
Today, I thought I would use it to create a home network with another laptop so, I changed the computer name and unchecked the domain name to create a work group. After restarting the laptop, I am prompted to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to start the logon process. When I use my user id and password I get an error message that states "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct and then type your password again."  I know the user name is correct but there is no way to determine the domain nor a way to enter it. I have tried using  the new computer name but that didn't work either. Is there any way to bypass this process so that I can get to my data and  the apps?

sometimes people leave the password blank for "administrator"
You might try that login.
