LAN cross-platform software solution for file sharing and RDC

Hello everyone,

I've been up and down the forum and google\yahoo, ect searches and haven't come across what I'm looking for. I'm hoping you'll bear with me as there seems there'd be an obvious solution.... Unfortunately I haven't been able to find it.

With that said, I'm looking for a software solution for remote desktop control with file sharing across a LAN running 2 XP, 1 Vista, and 2 OS X machines with VM Fusion. Ideally I'd like either a dropbox on desktop or right menu context "send to" for file transfer.

I know it sounds a bit lazy but I've already tried COTVNC, radmin, teamviewer and many other VNC and separate file transfer solutions that are either single platform or don't have all-in-one solution unless I log onto internet.

. I have networked folders on all machines with no problem but digging through Explorer and Finder has become tedious and sharing desktops for file transfers has created a cluttered mess.

I was hoping with all the experience on this site and the excellent solutions I've been provided in past (umm, let me wipe that brown off my nose ;-) that someone has come across a fast, stable software solution.

Any suggestions are majorly appreciated,

Chris

it sounds like dalesit's solution is the way I'll have to go.

As far as RoyalITS as mentioned by uetian1707 doesn't appear to solve the cross-platform issue. Can't see how it can be more viable than a VNC as there doesn't seem to be a mac use outside of a VM running windows.

Thanks to both of you for a speedy reply.

Hello again ,

Just to add some info to the knowledge base, it appears that RealVNC DOES have a Enterprise version that seems to work on Mac that includes both RDC and file sharing. I've yet to try it out

 http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html

It also seems to be working using radmin between my windows and jollyfastVNC on my Macs. Maybe since radmin uses a different port than the standard 5900 I've seen on the VNCs I've tried ?

As mentioned above it's pretty straight forward sharing folders and using an alias for mac and a shortcut for windows seems to solve the sharing issue.

Though reconnecting and latency might be issues using a mac VNC viewer to control a windows VNC server which uses Radmin to control other PCs..... Oh do I feel some confusion coming on ;-).

Thanks agian guys,

Chris
