Outlook 2007 error: "The data file 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly."

I am receiving the error message: The data file 'Personal folders' was not closed properly.  This file is being checked for problems."  Then I have to wait several minutes while it goes through the check.
It happens somteims when I open my e-mail - but not every time.
I am running Outlook 2007 on a laptop with Windows XP SP2.
My outlook.pst files is 1.2 GB, so I'm not at the 2GB limit mentioned in other posts as a possible cause of the problem.
I have two user profiles on this laptop - one for when I work at home, and one for when I'm at work. Both profiles use the same outlook data files.
My pst files are of type "Microsoft Office Outlook Personal Folders".

Hello lyonski,

Run ScanPST on PST file until there are no errors.  This may take awhile.

If no joy, large PST file, even though not exceeding the limit, will operate slowly and sometimes with error.  It is better to keep the size below 1 GB.  Delete unused emails.  Move some to archive. Compact the PST file.
