My Documents Folder Opens every few minutes.

We have a Windows XP Professional system where the My Documentes folder opens automatically every few minutes. Continuously. We have run multiple tools and scanners and found nothing. We have sifted through the Registry, we have used sysinternals tools to attempt to locate parent processes, we have installed service pack 2 and 3.

We cannot figure this out. :)

Have you tried Filemon from Sysinternals, to see if you can include the documents folder (either "Userid's documents", or "My Documents", try both).

Or use Regmon to try and see what proces is querying the folowing registry key/value.....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
"Personal" value is My Documents.

While we are at it with Sysinternals tools, can even try AutoRuns to rule anything odd from startup......

all these can be retrieved from http://live.sysinternals.com

I always start with the basics. You don't have any kind of "trick" keyboard that has keys programmed to open my documents do you? Check down by the clock and see if you have an accessibility (keyboard or mouse) control icon. It could also be either a flakey keyboard or mouse laying down a stroke or click ...

Is your "every few minutes" a definite set period of time always the same?  If so, maybe somehow a scheduled task has been created for the display of My Documents.  Check this MS document for using Task Scheduler:

Hi, If my documents is a shortcut then either remove it and then goto control panel, display, desktop, customize desktop and be sure that my documents is selected to show on the desktop and click ok.

You can also right click on the my documents shortcut (if you have one somewhere) and click on the shortcut key and remove it.

Have you checked the Scheduled Tasks in Control PAnel it could be there, if so delete that task!

reidras, I suggested that 6 hours ago!
