How to unlock a Word document?

I have a word file that is a purchase and sale agreement for real estate.  It is a fill in
the blank type of form.  I can't seem to change any of it.  All commands are greyed
out.  Does that mean it is locked?

How can I unlock it or even copy it to a new word file?  I can't even highlight
the text.  It won't let me.

Thanks ahead of time,
Dean

It sounds like as if it is protected for forms, so that you can only fill in the form fields.

Show the Forms toolbar and try using the padlock to remove the protection.

Thanks for the response.  Yea, I guess it's password protected.

If it is only forms-protected, you can try reading it into a blank document using Insert>File..

If it's password protected you can crack it with any number of free utilities.  Just search Google for "crack word password".

Graham,

That worked!  It took me a while cause I first didn't see the insert file command
because in 2007 they renamed it and changed the fricking location.  It's now
under insert-object-text from file.

Thanks!  And thanks to all those who responded!

Sorry about the lack of detail. I use 2003 most of the time, but I could  power up another system to check any menu-driven answer if the question is known to be about 2007.
