New HD not recognized during XP install

I have a Gateway MP6954 Laptop and the HD died, Bought the same drive a WD Scorpio WD1200BEVS (SATA) to put in and reinstall XP. (No Disks from manufacturer).  The BIOS shows the drive but during install XP says no drive available.  The drivers on Gateway site say the install to the folder in C:.... How do I get the Drivers into laptop during install.

Thanks

You need the Intel mass storage controller drivers:

During install, press F6 and install driver so installation will pickup the drive and continue installation. Your system might not have floppy, so slipstream using nLite would be better way:

It sounds like you need to format the drive before XP will install.  But if I remember correctly, when you run the XP CD, it should give you that option as one of the first things.  In your process, you say the BIOS is recognizing the HD correctly.  Do you have the computer set to boot from CD-ROM drive ?   If it isn't, I would set it to boot from CD, and see if the XP SETUP will begin to load, and give you the option to format this drive.  It should display something like " unpartitioned space " and then the size of the drive.

Also try this first, access bios and disable AHCI and set IDE mode see if install will see drive.

I have the Driver from Gateway, yes , No Floppy so that is out.  THe Bios does not havve the option to disable AHCI and to set IDE Mode.  Not familiar with Nliteos, so I have a brand new unformatted drive will I be able to use nLite to install driver?

FirstDown Mage there is no option with Install to format the drive.

the only way to get the driver in is to use a USB floppy and download the Intel Mass Storage Drivers, and press F6 as the Xp install is loading, when it says "press F6 to install additional drivers".  Floppy is the only way to get that driver loaded on a XP install.  Best of Luck!
