What is GUID in PXE boot ?

While booting using PXE I am seeing this information on the console, Can I get the explanation what does GUID stand here ?

CLIENT MAC ADDR: 08 00 27 70 CD 07      GUID: 8620E7F3-1596-489D-A516-747E9F552879

any pointers would be much appreciated.

A Globally Unique Identifier or GUID is a special type of identifier used in software applications in order to provide a reference number which is unique. This is how the PXE boot finds the server or how the server find the computer for the PXE boot.

is this GUID works only in PXE ?? Does GUID for the same hardware would be different for different application ?

If you have access the a Windows DHCP server you can see the GUID listed to the far right of the screen on the lease tab.
