Using Public Folder for the kind of use that you want is not recommended. it is not the intended use of PF.<br />
I would create a PST file of mails (of user who left) and hand over to people, seperately who wanted it (with authorization obviously). Else would disable AD user acccount and inturn give users access to the user's mailbox (grant permissions using dsa.msc)<br />
