D2D2T backups using Symantec Backup Exec 12

We currently have D2T setup here (I did not set this up) but we are looking to go with a D2D2T solution due to some storage space issues on the local server running Backup Exec 12.  We will be attaching an external HD to the BE server and want to have the files (catalogs, backups) etc run to/from this drive, then backup to our tape.   How do I go about setting this up?  I am new to Symantec BE so completely at a loss.  Any help would be appreciated.

The best way to achieve this is to create a policy and add 2 templates to the policy - one Backup template, where you define the backup to disk, and then you create a duplication template in the same policy and associate it to the backup template you created earlier. This will write that backup contained in the B2D files from disk to tape.

It is the actual steps to creating a policy, templates, etc and associating it to drive that I need assistance with.

Also check the Admin Guide (on PDF in the Backup Exec installation directory structure) from page 444 (heading "Adding a duplicate backup template to a policy")
