how to install / update windows installer to v4.5?
Hi folks:
I am trying to install SQl Express 2008. requirements indicate that I need the .net framework 3.5 sp1 - that is installed. It also indicates that I need indows power shell installed - that is installed also, last requirement is Windows installer v4.5 I downloaded the appropriate file (ending with extension ".msu") but double clicking it simply indicaes that there is no program to "open" this file type with. Cannot seem to find any meaningful info on the web as to "how" to install this file / update -MSDN "star page" for windows installer is also "equally unhelpful" in this regard.
I am running windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates to date. Any information would be gretly appreciated as this is kind of urgent.

Just as a bit of information that doesn't really answer your question but may be helpful to know, the .msu file you downloaded is actually a windows installer file for use on Windows Server 2008 systems. Servers are the only systems that this can be installed on.The above link for the redist pack is the one you actually need.

Thanks for the link must have missed that option in all the confusion..
