Exchange 2003 random emails disapear in categorizer
I have recently been employed by this company and have come across a problem with the exchange server. We seem to have random emails disapear from the system and all the message tracking says for the last event is message submitted to categorizer and that is the last we see of the email. We do have email monitoring software and antivirus scanning the emails but neither of them display any email being isolated.
We have an exchange server 2003 standard edition with about 400 mailboxes. We have the following software installed:-
Mcafee virusscan enterprise ver 8.0.0
Mcafee GroupShield for exchange
surfcontrol email monitor
Does anyone know of how I can fix this fault?

Is there any way of setting up a notification if the categorizer blocks the email?
we will try by removing the Mcafee group shield, but will need some way of being notified other than relying on users to tell us.
We cannot remove surfcontrol as that deals with all internal email filtering.

There is nothing that can alert you when a message is blocked, because messages should only be blocked when something happens to the messages.
If the problem isn't resolved by removing Groupshield then Surfcontrol will have to go. Most problems of this type are caused by third party tools.

We have gone back and ran some tests by getting the user to resend the email while we check the system logs of all programs involved.
Once again it stoped in the categorizer. This time we found a system log in SurfControl which indicated a TNEF conversion error and then droped the email. We are on the phones trying to get support for this application to resolve this conversion fault resolved.
Thank you for your time.
