Windows 2003 SBS servername change

Hi Everyone, quick question:

I'm installing a second Windows 2003 SBS server for a server migration of an existing SBS server.  I'm going to use Swing Migration to do the migration.

Once I install the new server (which by default becomes the DC), and do the migration, can I change the servername later?  It needs to have the same name as the old one, but obviously can't have the same name on the netowrk during the migration.

Hi there,

If you are using the migration kit and want to keep the same, you will first, need another PC (this can be any PC) to swing to first, once complete, you will then swing it back to a new machine with the old name.

It's literally a swing migration, repeated. The documentation that comes with the Kit should show you how to do this. I tend to do it like this if some customers need to keep their licenses, as they can sometimes be bound to the servername.
