Prevent Application Execution from network locations?

Medium Priority
Last Modified: 2012-05-06
Hello Everyone,

I am wondering if it is possible to deny users the ability to execute applications from a network drive.  Instead requiring them to be on local hard drive.

Is this type of functionality possible via local security policy or some other tool?  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Sort of... you can try using Software Restriction Policies.... YMMV, though.

Hey Cynep,

That's a good start, but if possible I would like to only restrict the execution of programs that are executed from a network share of remotely mapped drive.  All local execution should work normally.  Software Restriction Policies seem to take an 'all or nothing' approach

I will continue looking at the SRP's to see if I can uncover anything else.

Any other advice is greatly appreciated!

hi CynepMeH,

Thanks to you pointing me in the right direction I have been able to successfully implement a series of policies to prevent applications from being run across the network and locally.  Thanks again.
