What approach will handle disabling the Flash video?

How do you stop Flash movies from playing when you are hiding showing multiple on one page? I'm doing a bunch of Modal windows, for a user, and some can have a large and small flash movie. I'm using a javascript function to invoke the swfObject method of embedding. I'm using jQuery to handle the click event which will load the new movie. However, clicking off the modal window or click a different size link will load a new flash movie or close the window. I'm looking for a method that will unload , so to speak, the flash movie on a click event or something.

Hi Andrea_Jennison,

Have you looked into the JW Media Player?  It supports stopping playback when focus is lost.

Unfortunately I don't have a choice in the player. My organization runs Flash Media Server. I therefore need a solution for the flash player. We currently are using a custom flash player to play the flash movies in.

The JW Media Player would replace the custom one.  Are you sure that solution is out of the window?

I am currently working to investigate using an alternate player, but is there another method for unloading a flash object?

The Flash object should be able to accept commands passed to it via flashvars.  The idea is to stop the player on lost focus but the details on how to do that are beyond me (which is why I use a player that supports it out of the box).

Good luck.  Hopefully the mods will find someone else to assist.
