Desktop Icons won't move , Windows XP Pro

a friend's laptop running XP Pro SP3 has developed a strange problem.. she can't move desktop icons around - auto arrange and align to grid options make no difference.

Any ideas welcome

    Try checking the RPC service is running:;en-us;830071

    see how that goes

    this might sound really dumb but double check that none of your mouse buttons are stuck in, the center one can cause this to happen if it gets stuck...

    Odd , the value in the registry was already correct but by OKing it and restarting, the problem was solved. I also found the source of the problem - wireless mouse, have no idea why, but plug it in and the problem recurs.
