Best tool to monitor WAN latency

I want to monitor network latency between two sites seperated by about a thousand miles.   Remote machine is part of the home site domain and I'm interested to determine if our Email client latency varies more so than our imaging app as well as overall network speed.

Any recommendations on applications to use to monitor site to site latency would be appreciated.

Personally, I like smokeping for monitoring latency

uetian1707,

correct me if I'm wrong, but Iperf is for measuring throughput, not latency.

I'll take all the answers above as an answer but my best results were with:

Jperf/Iperf  <--good for UDP jitter and latency.
WireShark
Netmon (MS)
