Exchange 2007 not reachable by a mac

I have a situation where a mac with Entourage 2008 lost connectivity with the exchange server using Outlook Anywhere (rpc over http).  On the same day the MAC machine installed Office for Mac 2008 which included Entourage (This was already installed), the server was also reconfigured to resolve the issue of the Outlook 2007 clients where receiving a certificate error.
Since then the MAC cannot connect to the Exchange server.  There are no errors in the event log and the IMAP service is running.

Which version of Office 2008 did he install? The version of Entourage on the Home and Student Edition does not support Exchange. If he installed the Home and Student Edition, it may have overwritten the version of Entourage that can connect to Exchange with the version that cannot.

Ok.  I did confirm that the home and student edition was indeed installed.  We uninstalled all and rebooted.  Only the standalone entourage that worked before is installed.  Which leads me to believe that it relates to the certificate error fix internal clients were getting that was resolved on the same day.  The internal clients are no longer getting an error but any external outlook clients are getting a certificate error.  the owa site does not get an error just outlook anywhere
I confirmed that it is specific to the user not that machine.  I have configured another mac and duplicated the steps.  I cannot figure out what is wrong with the user that is preventing them from connecting.  On the new machine it tells me invalid username or password but the same login credentials are used for owa with no issues.
