call server-side function from client-side

Is there a way to call a particular server-side function(C#) from client-side(javascript) without using pageMethods and PageLoad. Please let me know. Thanks!

    The short answer is no.  But AJAX gives you a bit of a grey area.  Because you're not asking for specifics I'm not sure where to go from there but here's a link to get you started:

    Watching just a couple of vidoes can get you going with UpdatePanels and their's a good chance the functionality you need is already included in the AJAX Control Toolkit...
