Alternative to Visual Web Developer

Is there an IDE  /  GUI   programming environment other than Microsoft Visual Studio?

I know I've heard of other development applications for .NET, but I don't remember what they were.

I have used WebMatrix before: http://www.startvbdotnet.com/aspsite/editors/webmatrixide.aspx.

And Dreamweaver (adobe) can be used to develop ASP.NET.  Unless you already own license though, it probably wouldn't make sense to buy that and not visual studio unless you are also dealing with a lot of coldfusion or other languages that make dreamweaver more attractive.

Since Visual Web Developer is free, I use that on machines I don't have full version of Visual Studio installed.  Hope that gets you started.

I would be more than happy to use Visual Web Developer, if I could get the stinking software to install.  I keep getting an error during the part that installs the Web Authoring Component.

I don't think I have seen that error before.  Try double checking you have all the pre-requisites installed like .NET framework corresponding to version of VSWD.  Think for VSWD 2008 I have .NET versions up to 3.5 installed.
