How do I deploy sccm client and updates

I have successfully deployed sccm client with wsus/software update method, but to do this I have to create a gpo to point to a intranet microsoft update service location. With this gpo in place no clients manage to report it's update status to Configuration Manager. All clients are in unknown state and when running report "Troubleshooting 1 - Scan errors" all clients are reporting error code 2147219822.

When I remove the gpo updates are published and clients are reporting status to Configuration Manager.

How do I deploy clients and updates through SCCM Update Services?

Hi

You shouldn't configure your client to use both SCCM and WSUS. If you want to use SCCM for patch management don't configure your GPO.

Chris Stauffer has written a good guide on Patch Management with SCCM

I am not trying to use both wsus and sccm for patch management but I want the SUP to deploy Configuration manager client. This document describes how to do this but this gpo prevents me from deploying updates using SCCM:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633194.aspx

How do I successfully deploy both client and software updates by using SUP?

Hi again,

this is really strange, if you follow the documentation you will have the client installed for all machines without clients. But machines with clients will have a GPO conflict with the error code 2147219822.

I have no good recommendation for you here, all I know is that there will be a conflict as soon as you have the values in your GPO and you have the client installed....

Anyone else have more information about this.....??

I have found the problem/solution.

In the domain GPO I pointed to a intranet microsoft update service location like this: http://supserver.domain.com
This works in WSUS when using port 80 but not in SCCM where you have to specify the port like this: http://supserver.domain.com:80

kmtech, could you elaborate on where is SCCM you had to put in that information?  All of my clients are reporting to WSUS but they are not installing the SCCM Client...

Thanks,
Matt
