Advice on large TV/monitors

A customer currently has three smaller LCDs hooked up to his PC.  He is not a gamer.  He uses his PC primarily for running his home business.    Weve discussed just getting one large monitor instead.

My only experience with TV/monitors was back when they had such terrible resolution I would never consider using them as monitors.  Im also skeptical about equipment that does two things at once, since quite often they do neither well.

Now Im seeing TV/LCDs with resolutions like 1920x1200 and sizes 30to 50 inches.  How well do these work as monitors?  Are refurbished ones any good?  Im seeing them for as low as $500.  Are these to be trusted?  Do you want a wide screen aspect, if they even make them square? Anything else to consider if he buys one?

Thanks,
Al

That's an LCD versus Plasma?  If I get this right you are saying that they work fine as both a computer monitor and TV so long as they are 1080p and 120hz.  I would assume that the resolution is as good as my 24" Dell digital widescreen monitor and that my customer should be able to work in several programs with such a monitor.  Do they require special video cards?
Closing the question.
Thanks for your help,

You can use pretty much any input on the tv and yes 99% of video cards will work.
