Exchange Backup fails because the job failed with the following error: Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again

We are running Symantec backup exec 12.5 and run a handful of daily backups every week night and a full weekly on Friday night. The exchange daily backup disk to disk seems to fail with the following error:

The job failed with the following error: Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again

The job runs at 18mb/min whereas the other jobs run at around 400mb/min and backs up around 4GB - 5GB of data, which is should. Any ideas?

Are you sure your username / password are correct?

Yeah i've run a test on the credentials, and they pass, but none of the tests are for MAPI, i have no idea what credentials it would use because its never asked for any.

A possible cause for this issue is that there is a storage group that was formally backed up and is now no longer available or has been renamed. Backup Exec is looking for the former Storage Group and is not finding it.

SOLUTIONS:

1) Edit the selection list for the Exchange backup job.
2) Deselect the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
(it will deselect all the child storage groups)
3) Reselect the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
4) Save the selection list.
5) Run the job again.

I was already advised of this by a friend of mine the other day, but had no effect.

It seems to spend the majority of its time updating catalogs. We had this problem last week but it seemed to sort itself out, but now its back.

I have exactly the same problem, have followed symantec's advice of deselecting, reselecting, but no change.  If you get a solution please post it, as I will.

Ok, this backup seems to be going really weird now.

It ran last night and failed 3 mintues later with the following error:

e000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status.

I've found a link to the symantec website who suggested checking the VSS Admin list, which all came back with no errors. In the 3 mintues it did manage to backup over 1GB of data.

Mine is sorted now (after a fashion).  There is definitely a bug with BE12.5 and Ex2007.  I have tried putting the exchange backup FIRST in the selection order in the backup.  It works 100% that way, but if it comes after any NTFS backup it fails.  I hope this works for you.

Yeah i now have mine working as well. I took your idea, but one step further, i had the information store and the system state backing up in one job, but i have now separated the jobs and put the information store back up before the system state one and it succeeds.
