FrontEnd Exchange Server Decommission.

Hi All,

We are planing to decommisssion our Frontend Exchange Server and bring an already built Server (although it doesn't have Exchange on it right now) up with the same name.  Mainly because it will ease the administration on the MX records etc. The Server  is where users connect to  OMA and OWA. Is it possible to export the certificate to the new server and are there any settings etc I need to take careful note off before we bring it down and decommission it?

Will we have to set the IMC connectors up again (from our mailbox Servers) or will these be picked up again when we bring up the new Server.

Can you see any implications with this method?

Many Thanks for your help

Frontend servers are easy to remove - you just use add/remove programs to remove Exchange and the server will be removed correctly.
However if you want to use the same machine name that will mean you will need to remove the frontend server from the SMTP Connectors. You will be unable to remove the server until you do that.

The SSL certificates can just be exported and then imported in IIS.
