Microsoft Search Server 2008 install corrupt

I have downloaded the Microsoft Search Server 2008 to try out on a windows 2003 server vm.  However, when I attempt to run the Search Server Preparation Tool under the Install, I get the error about iisback.vbs copy error.  It's an i386 problem and I can't continue the install.  I assume that the microsoft download is bad, but if it's not what might I be doing wrong?

the VM probably doesn't have search server files included.  Different versions of windows server come with different bundled options.

maybe download a different eval version - if there is an enterprise version, it should come 'with the lot'
