I'm looking into CMS for the first time.  All types of CMS compatible with all types of web servers?  Or, is each type of CMS web server specific?  For example, does Mambo on run on IIS or Apache?

There are a vast number of CMS solutions out there. Most (Day, Vignette, UCM, DCTM, Alfresco)  work with any application server and/or web server. But, on the other hand, it appears that Ektron is IIS specific (http://www.ektron.com/cms400-web-cms.aspx?id=1701). This is probably most often found on the other .NET CMS solutions.

Every CMS has a system requirements page that will list the details you are requesting. For example, http://www.mamboserver.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=86 is the page for Mambo.
