Launch.ica contains wrong STA ID

When launching a published app from our Citrix Web Interface the launch.ica file sometimes returns a STA which is not included in the list of servers for that app. Because of this the user sees a "Protocol Error" and is returned to the list of published apps to try again. We have 3 XenApp servers and a separate WI/CSG server. The STA that causes the problem is that of the WI/CSG server which does not host any applications. Why would the WI/CSG server include it's STA in the published apps when it is not included in the server list for that app? More importantly, how can I fix this problem?

Is it in the list of servers for the CSG?

Sounds like your WI/CSG server is a farm member, WI/CSG should not be installed on a citrix server.

It appears the CSG and WI STA lists did not reflect the available Xenapp servers in the farm which occasionally tried to connect to older Xenapp servers. For future reference ensure all Xenapp servers in the farm are included in the following 3 lists:

1)      Citrix Secure Gateway Management Console
     a)      Secure Gateway Configuration> Ensure all Xenapp servers are listed in the STA list (remove old servers if necessary)
     b)   Complete wizard and restart Secure Gateway

2)      Web Interface
     a)      Right-click website and go to Manage secure client access>Edit secure Client access
     b)      Click Next>Next>Ensure correct STA URLs are included and finish wizard

3)      Published App
     a)      Right-click published app and go to Modify application properties>Modify servers
     b)      Include appropriate Xenapp servers to host the published app
