    Hello seniorhelper,

To make Gmail the default email handler, download and install Gmail Notifier, Google Toolbar, or Google Talk, all of which have an option to make Gmail the default mail handler.

Also, there is a registry hack to make Gmail the default handler.

    Hope this helps!
