Or, you could try this first. Open My Computer and activate &quot;Show hidden files and folders&quot; for the root of all harddrives =)

I really think its an option somewhere I just am not seeing<br />
I checked the root folder for my drives and they all have the option Show hiddne files and folders selected under the folder options menu

just did a fresh install of windows 7 a week ago and then all the sudden I don't know what happened but I can see my task bar but I can't see any icons on my desktop or any gadgets<br />
I can turn the desktop toolbar on and in the task bar click it and see all the icons that suppose to be on the desktop but I don't see them on the desktop itself
